The Abu Simbel temples were constructed by the legendary pharaoh Ramsess II (1303 u2013 1213 BC) between 1290 BC and 1224 BC to fully immortalize his legacy, honor the gods, and show his devotion to his beloved wife. The temple has a very huge statue of Ramses with the height of 108 FT and one of the most important places in the temple is the great grand hall and the temple is an amazing hypostyle hall containing hypnotic and magical images from the battle of Kadesh in 1279 BC and the central chamber that holds four great rock-cut seated statues of Ra-Horakhty, the gods Amun & Ptah, and the deified King Ramses. The temple was rescued from total destruction in the 60s with the help of the Egyptian government, UNESCO, and the help of the entire world.
The sun festival is a magical phenomenon that takes place on the 22 of February and October of each year. The festival begins when the sun rays enter the hypostyle hall which contains four seated statues of Amun (The God of Gods), Ptah (God of creation), Ra-Horakhty (The Sun God), and the great pharaoh Ramses II which illuminate the faces of the statues.
